Iron Maiden: Flight 666

I wasn’t a huge Iron Maiden fan. I love heavy metal, but for whatever reason I never really got into Maiden. Likely I was too obsessed by Van Halen, or should I say, Edward Van Halen to bother checking out Maiden. I kind of went from Van Halen right to Slayer, Metallica, Megadeath, and Anthrax. It wasn’t until later in life that I actually took the time to be destroyed by the power of IRON MAIDEN!! Now, I too am a believer.

I recently bought the Flight 666 DVD by Sam Dunn. Sam Dunn is a metal fan (from Vancouver Island!) and he makes great documentaries on the impact of metal around the world. They’re smart, entertaining, and done from a true metal fan’s perspective which makes them ring true. Check out his first two films, Metal – A Headbangers Journey and Global Metal. Sam is obviously a huge Iron Maiden fan and his latest film does not disappoint.

Flight 666 documents Iron Maiden’s world tour and shows the band in fine form. They rock harder than ever and they have kept their integrity intact. Iron Maiden still feels relevant and vital, it feels like they mean it when they scream it. They’ve shunned the reality show ghetto that Gene Simmons, Flavor Flav (and I love Public Enemy), and Ozzy have all fallen prey to. In short they still have their balls!

If you’re a metal fan or not you’ll love this film. It’s got passion and you’ll feel it when you see audiences from all over the world completely lose their mindbrains. :) Pure and honest joy found in a metal crowd, what a concept!

So, here’s a question… How can a dude in a love rock band like Scatterheart be a metal fan?

Life is all about balance baby! ;)
